The role of PE Assistant is an exciting opportunity for the right person to support our drive to ensure all our pupils have a physical activity they can engage in both now and into the future. Physical Activity is hugely important for all of the community for regulation, skill development and positive mental health and well-being! This is incredibly important for our pupils to develop and where they can, go on to have the opportunity to excel in a sport, thereby increasing their self-esteem and fitness.


Main Duties and Responsibillites

To promote equality as an integral part of the role and to treat everyone with fairness and dignity.

To recognise health and safety is a responsibility of every employee, to take reasonable care of self and others and to comply with the Schools Health and Safety policy and any school-specific procedures / rules that apply to this role.

To promote the welfare of children and to support the school in safeguarding children though relevant policies and procedures.

  • Support PE lessons as instructed by the Teacher and ensure necessary equipment is ready to use and set up
  • Setting up, leading and taking down sensory circuits
  • Leading rebound sessions (training provided)
  • Drive the minibus to offsite activities and events (training provided)
  • Create communicate in print resources to support communication
  • Help pupils access the pool by getting in and supporting them
  • Run PE lessons when the PE Teacher is away or at other events
  • Help adapt lessons to ensure they are inclusive
  • Put away equipment and prepare for next lesson
  • Contribute to reports / earwig
  • Support with the writing of the termly newsletter
  • Attend offsite swimming sessions and take a small group to support differentiated learning at the pool
  • Support and give advice to PE staff across the School
  • Advise other areas of School re equipment available for lessons and how to use it
  • Help organise Sports Day
  • Keep the inventory of Sports equipment up-to-date
  • Manage and maintain all PE equipment, ensuring they are ready to be used. Ensure equipment is ready for use ie balls pumped up, School playing strip ready for matches
  • Support students taking part in Sports Leadership across the School
  • Keep all storage areas tidy and well organised
  • Run lunchtime clubs/support teachers running clubs
  • Keep PE notice board up to date and current
  • Attend meetings on behalf of Brookfields School related to PE issues
  • Take small groups to run PE interventions – sensory motor programme / climbing etc
  • Support in the running of the School Link with the School Sports Network
  • Compile photographic and video evidence of PE activities
  • Under the leadership of the PE Teacher help to organise and run sporting events and tournaments in School and with other Schools
  • Under the leadership of the PE Teacher help to organise and run charity events eg Kick for CLIC and Jump Rope for Heart
  • Under the leadership of the PE Teacher Help to organise intra and interschool competitions
  • Under the leadership of the PE Teacher complete Risk Assessments and Evolve, election of Teams with PE staff, inform / negotiate with staff re students, write letters to Parents, receive and organise reply slips, arrange kit
  • Meet with parents (eg at open evenings, Progress Evenings or to promote specialist activity area) as necessaryQualifications and Skills

Qualifications and Skills

  • Relevant qualifications to include either A Levels, NVQ3 (including English and Maths) or NNEB plus GCSEs grades A to C or Sub level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent evidential experience - essential
  • Qualifications in coaching or teaching sports, especially Rebound Therapy, Trampolining, outdoor activities - desirable
  • Qualifications or equivalent experience within specialist area of activity - essential
  • Demonstrable and relevant experience within a school based setting - essential
  • Demonstrable and relevant SEN experience - essential
  • Qualified First Aider - desirable
  • 3 years’ experience with pupils with learning difficulties - desirable
  • Refereeing qualifications in any sport - desirable
  • A good level of physical fitness as this job requires the employee to perform manual handling, demonstrate PE techniques and manage equipment - essential
  • Willingness to promote social inclusion policies and practices - essential
  • Contribute information to the PE Teacher in order for them to record and updated the sport premium record - essential
  • Computer literate – able to manage and organise video and photographs, add to Earwig, complete Risk Assessments, use Excel for competitions etc - essential
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills - essential
  • Ability to make use of ICT to support pupils’ learning - essential
  • Able to confidently and competently apply knowledge and skills acquired from training into a practical context, in and outside formal classroom settings - essential
  • Good planning and organisational skills - essential
  • Ability to motivate and encourage pupils - essential
